North Korea - A Famine in the Land

North Korea is one of the world's most isolated countries. Ruled by a communist iron fist, this country is in the midst of a severe famine, largely man-made. In 1995 and 1996 North Korea was struck by devastating floods that wiped out much of their food supplies. One Korean said, "There are no dogs, cats or even rats left in North Korea - they have all been caught and eaten. Families are boiling tree bark into paste in order to survive". The Red Cross has warned that if North Korea does not receive enough food aid, the country's 22 million people would face starvation.

In the face of this devastation, North Korea has now even agreed to open its doors to religious groups. One European ministry has been granted permission to plant a church and teach people farming techniques.

Pray for the estimated 60,000 believers in this land of darkness. Pray that God will use this physical famine to draw many to Christ Jesus - the Bread of Life.
