Bible Translations Booming in Ethiopia

At least ten Bible translations are under way in Ethiopia, reports the United Bible Societies Translation Consultant based in Addis Ababa, Dr Loren Bliese.

Following the launching in January of the four Gospels in the Konso language, the Oromo Bible is now ready for publication.

The Borana New Testament translation has been revised and is currently being printed, and the manuscript of the Aari New Testament is now being checked.

As well, progress is continuing on translation of Scripture into the Afar and Gumuz languages and some initial work has been done on Scriptures for the Kafa-speaking region.

Dr Bliese and his Bible Society translation team work in association with the Summer Institute of Linguistics and various denominational groups in Ethiopia, to translate Scriptures into the many languages of that country.

"It's been a good year for Bible translation projects," said Dr Bliese, "and we thank God for open doors for His Word, and for His guidance and blessing."
